Secker & Sons was established in 1949 initially as an electrical business, however, keen to diversify in an emerging market, William Secker realised only 13% of UK homes had a refrigerator in 1960. By securing a major contract with Longford Engineering Company (LEC), Seckers became the sole distributer of the domestic refrigerator in East Anglia. At this time, the company had also won contracts with national companies such as Birds Eye Frozen Foods, Walls Ice Cream and The Lever Group who contracted us to design, install & service their refrigeration systems.
William was joined by his five sons and together they strived to provide a personal service that delivered on quality, customer care and value for money. Always aware of new innovations and market trends, Secker & Sons (Norwich) Ltd, were among the first to promote the sale of chilled dairy decks and display freezers to the convenience store retailer. A distribution agreement was established with Arneg, an industry leading Italian refrigeration display manufacturer, making our comparatively small family business the sole importers of Arneg Refrigeration to the UK and enabled us to develop a national retail client base during the 1960’s.
Since the company was established over 75 years ago, three generations of the family have strived to maintain the personal approach and conscientious values which were so important to William Secker and have helped establish Secker & Sons (Norwich) Ltd as a family-run, independent business with a reputation for outstanding service and high quality installations both locally and nationally.
Our current Managing Director, Alan James Secker, followed his father and grandfather into the business. Qualifying as an engineer, he remained on the tools until the age of 40 when he became Director of Shopfitting. In a little over a decade, Alan secured numerous Shopfitting contracts, working with brands such as Budgens, Nisa, Norwich City FC, Subway, Londis, The Metropolitan Police, Mc Donalds and KFC. Valuing in-house labour above all, Alan increased Seckers employees to over 50, ensuring we could offer a turn key solution from design, engineering, project delivery and hand over. His retail clients have won many national awards through exceptionally well designed stores and first class installations. These days Alan manages the company, designs stunning retail stores and most enjoys meeting customers from all walks of life.
Our strengths lie in the fact that both our Managing and Technical Directors are experienced engineers with over 70 years combined industry knowledge in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning. We consider our workforce to be our most important asset and our team of Senior Service Engineers keep pace with the latest technological advances in green technology & environmental solutions.
